Rare Species Of Asterotheca With Excellent Contrast - Unusual Location
Stock Number  FPFOK02

Name:   Asterotheca oreopteridia
Age:  Pennsylvanian
Formation:  Senora Formation
Location:  Rogers County, Oklahoma
Size:  Concretion is 3.2 inches long.

This specimen was collected January 11, 1976. It is a very pretty seed fern from the Senora Formation of Oklahoma. Seed ferns differ from true ferns in the method of reproduction. Seed ferns reproduce with seeds, while true ferns reproduce with spores. This unusual species of Asterotheca is well preserved in a siderite concretion. Only half of the concretion is present. This specimen has excellent color and contrast. It exhibits fine detail. This is a very aesthetic specimen of a seed fern from an old collection.
