Size: Concretion is 1.5 inches long.
This is a very detailed specimen of Lepidodendron bark from the Pensylvanian of Missouri. The bark is preserved in a siderite concretion. It is somewhat unusual to find bark fossilized in a concretion. Both halves of the concretion are present. The specimen is preserved in high relief and exhibits good detail. The diamond-shaped pattern of the bark is quite evident. Each diamond-shaped unit represents the former point of attachment of a fallen leaf. The fossil has excellent color and contrast. This is a very fine example of Lepidodendron bark.
