Beautiful Willow Leaf With Many Insects
Stock Number  FPUSA07

Name:   Salix cockerelli
Age:  Eocene
Formation:  Green River Formation
Location:  Bonanza, Utah
Size:  Leaf is 3.5" long including petiole

This is a very attractive specimen of Salix cockerelli, a willow leaf, from the Green River Formation of Utah. This long, linear leaf exhibits wonderful detail. The finely-toothed margins are clearly defined, and the venation is easily seen. The tiny tip of the leaf is even intact, which is somewhat unusual. A stout petiole is still tightly attached to the base of the leaf. There are also three craneflies and several mosquitoes on the plate! The fossils have great color and contrast and are well positioned on the rectangular slab of shale. This is an excellent willow leaf associated with many fossil insects.
