Very Displayable Poplar Leaf On Rectangular Plate
Stock Number  FPUPO08

Name:   Populus wilmattae
Age:  Eocene
Formation:  Green River Formation
Location:  Bonanza, Utah
Size:  Leaf is 5" long including petiole

Here is a great fossil leaf. This is a large leaf of Populus wilmattae, a poplar, from the Green River Formation of Utah. This heart-shaped leaf has a very rounded base and an acuminate apex. The very, very tip of the leaf is present, and the slightly crenate margins are totally intact. The venation of the leaf is beautifully displayed. Under magnification, even the tertiary venation is quite evident. A stout petiole is still tightly attached to the base of the leaf. The fossil plant has very good color and contrast and is well centered on the thin plate of shale. This is a very displayable poplar leaf from the Eocene.
