Name:
Lygodium kaulfussii
Age: Eocene
Formation: Green River Formation
Location: Bonanza, Utah
Size: Leaf is 1.3 inches wide
Here is a very nice leaf of Lygodium kaulfussii from the Eocene of Utah. Living representatives of this plant are true climbers. This distinctly lobed leaf is as wide as it is long. This type of leaf has entire margins and extremely fine venation. The venation is just spectacular on this specimen. The dark brown leaf contrasts beautifully with the khaki-colored matrix. The fossil is almost perfectly centered on the natural plate of shale. This is a very ''crisp'' example of a Lygodium leaf from the Green River Formation.
