Zelkova nervosa
Age: Eocene
Formation: Green River Formation
Location: Bonanza, Utah
Size: Leaf is 1.9 inches long
Here is a very attractive fossil leaf. This is Zelkova nervosa (Keaki Tree) from the Green River Formation of Utah. This lanceolate leaf exhibits great detail. The serrated margins of the leaf are quite distinct, and the venation is beautifully displayed. A short petiole is still tightly attached to the leaf. The fossil has outstanding, natural color and contrast and is well centered on the natural plate of shale. This is a very striking example of a Zelkova leaf from the Eocene.
