Gorgeous Specimen Of Alethopteris - Museum Quality

Name:   Alethopteris sp.
Age:  Pennsylvanian
Formation:  Carbondale Formation
Location:  Braidwood, Illinois
Size:  Nodule is 8.0 inches long.

This specimen was obtained from the Jay Wollin Collection. It was collected in the 1960s. This Alethopteris seed fern is preserved in a siderite concretion. Both halves of the concretion are present. This is a fantastic, large specimen of this particular seed fern. The fossil exhibits great detail. The venation is very strong. This Alethopteris has great color and wonderful contrast. Specimens like this are only attainable from old collections. This is a fabulous, museum specimen of a fossil seed fern.
