Double Metasequoia Specimen From The Oligocene
Stock Number  FPMME02

Name:   Metasequoia occidentalis
Age:  Oligocene
Formation:  Muddy Creek Formation
Location:  Beaverhead County, Montana
Size:  Larger sprig is 2.7 inches long.

Here is a nice double specimen of Metasequoia occidentalis, "dawn redwood", from the Oligocene of Montana. Metasequoia is a "living fossil". They have been found in rocks as old as the Upper Cretaceous and they are still alive today. These fossils have great color and superb contrast. They are well positioned on the natural plate of matrix. The needles show opposite attachment on the foliage shoots. This is a fine specimen of Metasequoia from Montana.
