This is a wonderful example of a fruiting body from Platanus wyomingensis, a sycamore. This specimen is from the Green River Formation of Utah. This "sycamore ball" exhibits fine detail and has outstanding coloration. The dark brown fruit contrasts beautifully with the grayish-tan matrix. The fossil is well presented on the natural plate of shale. This is a great specimen of a sycamore fruiting body from the Eocene.
