Colorado Sycamore Leaf With Excellent Color
Stock Number  FPCOL19

Name:   Platanus wyomingensis (Sycamore)
Age:  Eocene
Formation:  Green River Formation
Location:  Douglas Pass, Colorado
Size:  Leaf is 3.9" long & 3.75" wide

This is a gorgeous fossil leaf. It is a Platanus wyomingensis, a sycamore, from the Eocene of Colorado. This leaf has all five lobes intact, and the coarsely serrated margins of the leaf are beautifully displayed. The venation is very distinct, and a petiole is still tightly attached to the base of the leaf. The outstanding coloration of the leaf is totally natural - no paint or coloring has been added. The dark-colored fossil contrasts exquisitely with the light-colored matrix. It is well centered on the somewhat rectangular plate. This is an excellent example of a fossil sycamore leaf from the Green River Formation of Colorado.
