EXTINCTIONS Choice

Name:   Unidentified Plant With ''Sock Grabber''
Age:  Eocene
Formation:  Green River Formation
Location:  Bonanza, Utah
Size:  Plant is 1 inch long

Here is a very unusual plant fossil from the Green River Formation of Utah. This plant has a well-preserved stem, two distinct leaves, and a strange ''sock grabber'' type seed that is beautifully displayed between the two leaves. We have never seen anything quite like this specimen. The fine detail of the plant is outstanding. The natural color of the fossil contrasts wonderfully with the khaki-colored matrix. This strange plant is well centered on the plate of shale. This is a very unique fossil plant from the Eocene.
