Name:
Neuropteris sp.
Age: Pennsylvanian
Formation: Tonganoxie Sandstone
Location: Ottawa, Kansas
Size: Seed Fern is 2.8 inches long
Here is an interesting plant fossil that we recently acquired from an old collection. This is Neuropteris sp. from the Pennsylvanian of Kansas. This seed fern is well preserved in a sandstone matrix and exhibits fine detail. The central ''stem'' of the frond is easily seen, and the individual rounded leaflets are beautifully displayed. The fossil plant has great color and contrast. This is a fine example of a Coal Age plant from a site that has been closed for a number of years.
