Fine Sequoia Cone With Foliage
Stock Number  FPCM11

Name:   Sequoia sp.
Age:  Oligocene
Formation:  Muddy Creek Formation
Location:  Beaverhead County, Montana
Size:  Cone is 0.6 inches long

This is a very fine specimen of a Sequoia cone from the Oligocene of Montana. Isn't it strange that such a large tree would have relatively small cones? This fossil cone is still tightly attached to the stalk and exhibits great detail. The ovoid cone displays spirally arranged, peltate scales. The fossil has wonderful color and contrast and is well presented on the natural plate of matrix that also contains some interesting foliage. This is an excellent example of a fossil cone from a Sequoia tree.
