Excellent Persea Leaf From Colorado
Stock Number  FPCOL17

Name:   Persea coriacea
Age:  Eocene
Formation:  Green River Formation
Location:  Douglas Pass, Colorado
Size:  Leaf is 3.65 inches long

Here is a very nice specimen of Persea coriacea, a member of the Laurel family, from the Eocene of Colorado. This excellent fossil leaf has a somewhat asymmetrical base and an acuminate apex. The dentate margins of the leaf are beautifully displayed and both the primary and secondary venation is easily seen. A short petiole is still tightly attached to the leaf. This fossil leaf has wonderful dark brown color and contrasts well with the khaki-colored matrix. It is almost perfectly centered on the natural, rectangular plate of shale. This is a very striking specimen of Persea from Douglas Pass, Colorado.
