Large Double Leaf Plate From Colorado
Stock Number  FPCOL12

Name:   Platanus wyomingensis & Populus cinnamomoides
Age:  Eocene
Formation:  Green River Formation
Location:  Douglas Pass, Colorado
Size:  Plate is 6.0" X 6.4"

Here is a gorgeous plate of fossil leaves from the Eocene of Colorado. There are two different leaves on the slab. The large leaf in the center is a wonderful example of Platanus wyomingensis, a sycamore. This leaf has all five lobes beautifully displayed. The serrated margins of the leaf are well exhibited and the venation is clearly defined. The long, complete petiole is still tightly attached to the leaf. A very nice Populus cinnamomoides leaf is positioned to the left of the Platanus leaf. This unusual leaf has serrated margins and somewhat weak (though easily seen) venation. This leaf also has the petiole intact. The natural color of the leaves contrasts wonderfully with the khaki-colored matrix. The fossils are well positioned on the squared plate of shale. This is a very displayable plate of fossil leaves from the Green River Formation of Colorado.
