Metasequoia Cone With Excellent Detail
Stock Number  FPCM06

Name:   Metasequoia occidentalis
Age:  Oligocene
Formation:  Muddy Creek Formation
Location:  Beaverhead County, Montana
Size:  Cone is 1.7" long including stalk

Here is a superb specimen of a fossil cone from the "Dawn Redwood", Metasequoia occidentalis. This cone was found in the Oligocene deposits of Montana. The cone is complete and displays excellent detail. The spirally arranged scales of the cone are clearly defined and easily seen. The cone is still tightly attached to the long, stout stalk. The fossil has great color and contrast and is well positioned on the natural plate of shale. This is a very displayable specimen of a Metasequoia cone from the Oligocene.
