Fossil Seed Fern With Excellent Detail From Illinois

Age:  Pennsylvanian
Formation:  Carbondale Formation
Location:  Braidwood, Illinois
Size:  Concretion is 1.3 inches across.

This specimen was recently acquired from an old collection. The nodule was found in January of 1964. This is a very detailed fossil seed fern from the famous Mazon Creek area of Illinois. The seed fern is preserved in a siderite concretion. Both halves of the concretion are present. This is a nice example of a fossil plant from the Coal Age of Illinois.
