Age:  Eocene
Formation:  Green River
Location:  Near Bonanza, Utah

This is a spectacular plate of fossil plants from the Green River Shale. The huge leaf on the right side of the slab is a magnificent specimen of Aleurites glandulosa. This is a rare leaf from this location. The leaf displays nice venation. The somewhat irregular, undulated margins are totally intact. The short petiole is complete and attached to the leaf. The large plate also contains a fossil branch. Lying next to the branch are two nice leaves. The leaf on the left is Zelkova nervosa (keaki tree). This specimen exhibits fine venation. A short petiole is attached. The dentate margins are quite evident. The smaller leaf in the middle is an unidentified specimen. This leaf has entire margins with a short petiole. The fossils have good color and contrast. They are well positioned on the large rectangular slab of shale. This is an outstanding slab of fossil plants from the Eocene of Utah.
