Name:
Mimosites coloradensis
Age: Eocene
Formation: Green River
Location: Bonanza, Utah
Size: Larger branch is 1.4 inches long.
This is an excellent specimen of Mimosites coloradensis from the Eocene of Utah. Mimosites leaves are not uncommon from this site. However, leaves that are attached to a branch are quite rare. This specimen shows two branches with the leaves still attached. There are ten individual leaves present on the plate. The venation of the sickle-shaped leaves is evident and the entire margins of the leaves are nicely displayed. The fossil plant has great color and contrast. It is well positioned on the natural plate of shale. This is a very unique specimen of Mimosites from the Green River Formation.
