Very Detailed Poplar Leaf From The Eocene

Name:   Populus wilmattae (Poplar)
Age:  Eocene
Formation:  Green River Formation
Location:  Bonanza, Utah
Size:  Leaf is 3.3 inches including petiole

Here is a very attractive fossil leaf. This is Populus wilmattae, a poplar, from the Eocene of Utah. This leaf exhibits wonderful detail. The crenate margins of the large leaf are very distinct and the venation is easily seen. The long petiole is still intact and beautifully displayed. This poplar leaf has excellent color and contrast and is well centered on the somewhat squared plate that also contains two other partial leaves of different types and what appears to be a fossil fish scale. This is a very pretty poplar leaf from the Green River Formation.
