Name:
Cyclocarya brownii
Age: Paleocene
Formation: Fort Union
Location: North Dakota
Size: Larger fruiting body is 1.3 inches across.
Here is an interesting specimen from the Paleocene of North Dakota. The plate contains two fruiting bodies of Cyclocarya brownii. The fruiting bodies display fine detail. These samaras are very 3-dimensional in the center with the "wings" preserved as white radiating lines. The fossils have good color and contrast. This is a nice double specimen of these strange, airborne fruits. Also, there is a large partial leaf on the back side of the plate.
