Unidentified Legume
Age: Eocene
Formation: Green River
Location: Near Bonanza, Utah
Size: Fruiting body is 2.5 inches long including stem.
This is a super specimen of a fruit pod from some type of legume. This specimen is from the Eocene of Utah. The fossil looks like a "snap pea". This specimen even retains the stem. The fossil has great color and contrasts nicely with the lighter-colored matrix. The specimen is almost perfectly centered on the square plate. This is a very fine example of a legume fruiting body from the Green River Formation.
