Age:  Eocene
Formation:  Green River
Location:  Near Bonanza, Utah

This is a beautiful specimen of a sycamore fruiting body, Platanus wyomingensis, from the Eocene of Utah. This sycamore "ball" has fantastic detail. The individual bracts are easily seen. This specimen even retains the stem. This is a very unusual occurrence. The fossil has great color and contrasts nicely with the lighter-colored matrix. The specimen is well centered on the natural square plate. This is one of the finest sycamore fruits that we have ever seen.
