This is a beautiful Araucaria cone from the Jurassic of Patagonia. Araucaria is closely related to the modern-day monkey-puzzle tree. The cone has been cut in half and both halves have been polished. It has been replaced by silica in a multitude of colors. The interior of the cone displays fine detail. The individual seeds are very distinct. This is a gorgeous fossil cone from South America.
