Unique Neuropteris From Kansas - Part & Counterpart
Stock Number  FPK04

Name:   Neuropteris sp.
Age:  Pennsylvanian
Formation:  Tonganoxie Sandstone
Location:  Ottawa, Kansas
Size:  Neuropteris is 2.7 inches long.

Recently acquired from an old collection, this is a unique specimen of Neuropteris sp. from the Tonganoxie Sandstone. The specimen was split out of the sandstone, so that both part and counterpart of the fossil are present. The specimen preserves the pinnule and the smaller lateral leaflets at the base. The specimen exhibits fine detail. The venation is quite distinct. The fossil has excellent color and great contrast with the surrounding matrix. It is well centered on the rounded blocks of sandstone. This is a nice fossil of a seed fern from a now-closed location.
