Name:
Fossil Seed Fern
Age: Pennsylvanian
Formation: Tonganoxie Sandstone
Location: Ottawa, Kansas
Size: Seed Fern is 4.5 inches long.
This specimen was recently acquired from an old collection. The specimen was collected in the 1970s. It is a large fossil seed fern from the Pennsylvanian of Kansas. The seed fern is well preserved in a sandstone matrix. The fossil has good color and nice contrast. It is well centered on the matrix block. The fossil exhibits fine detail. Two smaller seed ferns of a different type are also preserved on the plate. We have heard that this site has been closed to collecting for a number of years. This is a very displayable specimen of a fossil seed fern.
