Here is a nice specimen of Lepidodendron bark from the Pennsylvanian of Iowa. The bark is preserved in a sandstone block of matrix that measures approximately 4.5" X 6.5". The fossil has good color and contrast. The fossil retains the diamond-shaped pattern of the leaf scars. This is a good example of Lepidodendron bark from the "Coal Age".
