Spectacular Plate Of Ash Leaves On Branch
Stock Number  FPUF01

Name:   Fraxinus sp. (Ash)
Age:  Eocene
Formation:  Green River
Location:  Bonanza, Utah
Size:  From tip of leaf to end of branch is 6.5"

Here is a spectacular display plate of leaves from Utah. This is an extremely unusual occurrence of a long branch with three leaves still firmly attached. This fossil plant is Fraxinus sp. (Ash) from the Green River Formation. Ash leaves are very uncommon from this stratigraphic unit. All three of the leaves have good detail. The venation is clearly defined - under magnification, even the tertiary venation is easily seen. The dark brown color of the fossil contrasts well with the khaki-colored matrix. The plant is wonderfully centered on the somewhat rectangular plate of shale. This is a very aesthetic specimen of a branch with leaves from an Ash tree.
