Sterculia coloradensis
Age: Eocene
Formation: Green River Formation
Location: Bonanza, Utah
Size: Leaf is 2.0" long & 2.8" wide
This is an extremely scarce leaf. It is a Sterculia coloradensis from the Eocene of Utah. This distinctive leaf has three long, pointed lobes with entire margins - it appears to be a leaf from a tropical vine. The short petiole is still tightly attached to the leaf. The fossil plant has great color and contrast and is well positioned on the natural plate of shale. This is only the second specimen of this unusual leaf that we have ever seen.
