Here is an extremely attractive fossil seed fern from the famous Mazon Creek area of Illinois. This plant is beautifully preserved in a siderite concretion. Both halves of the concretion (part and counterpart) are present. This specimen exhibits wonderful detail. The central "stem" is easily seen and each individual leaflet is clearly defined. The incredible color and contrast of the fossil is totally natural - no paint or coloring has been added to the specimen. This is an excellent seed fern from the Coal Age.
