Here is a very large fossil leaf. This is Macginitiea wyomingensis, a Sycamore leaf, from the Green River Formation of Colorado. All five lobes of the leaf are easily seen, and the straight-edged margins are exhibited in wonderful fashion. Part of the leaf has been bug-eaten, which is quite interesting. The venation of the leaf is quite distinct, and a long petiole is still tightly attached to the leaf. The dark brown leaf contrasts beautifully with the khaki-colored matrix. The large fossil (almost six inches long!) is well showcased on the large plate of shale that also contains a cluster of mosquitoes preserved close by!(The mosquitoes are MUCH more detailed than the photo shows.) This is a very collectible example of a large Sycamore leaf and insects from the Green River Formation.

A Certificate of Authenticity from EXTINCTIONS is included with this specimen.
