Here is a strange-looking example of a classic fossil leaf. This is Macginitiea wyomingensis, a Sycamore, from the Green River Formation of Colorado. All five lobes of the leaf are easily seen, and the slightly-serrrated margins are exhibited in wonderful fashion. The venation of the leaf is quite distinct, and a LONG petiole is still tightly attached to the leaf. The dark brown leaf contrasts beautifully with the khaki-colored matrix. The fossil is well showcased on the semi-squared plate of shale. This is a very fine example of an extinct Sycamore leaf from Colorado.
A Certificate of Authenticity from EXTINCTIONS is included with this specimen.
