This is a very fine specimen of a Cardiospermum coloradensis (Balloon Vine) leaf from the Green River Formation of Colorado. Living members of Cardiospermum are herbaceous, or woody vines. The fossil species appear to represent shrubs rather than vines. The large-lobed leaf has great color and contrast and is well showcased on the natural plate of shale. This is a very distinct example of this strange-looking leaf from the Rocky Mountains.

A Certificate of Authenticity from EXTINCTIONS is included with this specimen.
