Here is a fine fossil seed fern (Pecopteris miltoni) from the famous Mazon Creek area of Illinois. This specimen came from an old fossil collection in Chicago. This Coal Age plant is wonderfully preserved in a siderite concretion - both halves of the concretion (part and counterpart) are present. This large specimen exhibits excellent detail. The individual leaflets are clearly defined - under magnification, the venation of the leaflets is easily seen. The beautiful color and contrast of the fossil is totally natural - no coloring or enhancement has been added to the specimen. This is a very attractive Mazon Creek fern from an old collection.
A Certificate of Authenticity from EXTINCTIONS is included with this specimen.
