This is a very fine specimen of a Sequoia cone from the Oligocene of Montana. Isn't it strange that such a large tree would have relatively small cones? This fossil cone is still tightly attached to the stalk and exhibits great detail. The ovoid cone displays spirally arranged, peltate scales. The fossil has wonderful color and contrast and is well presented on the natural plate of matrix. This is an excellent example of a fossilized cone from a Sequoia tree.
This fossil was collected and obtained legally, and is also being sold legally.
A Certificate of Authenticity from EXTINCTIONS is included with this specimen.
